I will use ORD as an example. I, along with many others, have chosen to remain on ORD 10.12 due to a constant string of issues with more current releases. Most recently, I tried to upgrade a project from 10.12 to 24. This resulted in my Text File breaking. Civil Labels broke and it was a mess that would require me to redo all of my labels. We chose to stay on 10.12. I created a forum post about it and that was about it.
I then attended the 2025 Bentley Civil Conference. I spoke to a gentleman there who said he saw my post and shared that he was working on this issue and had resolved it. Unfortunately, the patch would not be available until ORD 25 released and as of December 2025, that still has not happened.
So, the issue is that ORD 24 had a bug. The bug has been resolved, but Bentley has no way of providing end users with the fix.
This leads me to a video game analogy. Everyone who plays video games knows you have to constantly update the games you play. Its become an issue in the video game world where a company knowingly releases a buggy game because they just need to release it. Then over the course of months and sometimes years, they are able to patch the game so that it works as intended.
Bentley does the same thing by releasing a buggy version of software, but they refuse to provide timely patches to fix simple things. I am not talking about new features here, just simply fixing the things that are broken in a timely fashion.
Bentley has the tools necessary to accomplish these patches. We all have Connection Client on our machines. Bentley could easily push patches out to their software to fix these types of bugs. In the instance of ORD 24 I mentioned above, they could have easily pushed that fix out to ORD 24 and I would be able to utilize it now instead of waiting for ORD 25.
Ultimately, I am pushing Bentley to provide bug fixes in a much timelier fashion. It's important for these bugs to be fixed quickly in the current schema so that we don't have to wait for a new schema to drop that could potentially include new bugs. Bentley should prioritize stability on the current version prior to releasing a new version with new features.
