Currently, vertical geometry can ONLY be displayed within the profile model of its parent horizontal alignment. On complex roadway projects, this profile view often contains numerous overlapping elements, such as:
Northbound and southbound PGLs
Left and right ditch profiles
Left and right projected drainage pipes and structures
Left and right projected wall profiles
Other necessary vertical features
As the amount of vertical geometry increases, profile sheets become difficult to develop and manage due to overlapping content and limited display control. We expect the following suggestions would help.
1. Allow Vertical elements to Be Projected onto Referenced Horizontal Geometry
Provide the ability to project vertical elements (geometry, drainage, etc.) from one model/alignment onto the profile view of a REFERENCED horizontal alignment. Designers could project ONLY the vertical elements needed for the specific sheet being developed. For Example: When developing northbound profile sheets, a designer could display only the northbound PGL, northbound ditch profiles, northbound drainage features, and northbound wall profiles, without also displaying unrelated southbound geometry.
Additional details:
Projected geometry would remain linked to the source elements and update automatically when the source geometry changes.
This functionality would be for display and sheet development only, (not for authoring or modifying vertical geometry in the referenced profile model).
2. Allow Vertical Display Offsets with True Elevation Annotation
Provide the ability to apply a user-defined vertical display offset to projected geometry while continuing to annotate the true, unshifted elevations.
Example: A designer could display a drainage profile 5 feet below its actual location to reduce overlap with the roadway profile while retaining annotation of the actual elevations.
The offset value should remain editable and update dynamically if needed..
Benefits
This enhancement would give designers the same flexibility in profile sheet development that already exists in plan production, where content from multiple referenced models can be selectively displayed as needed.
The result would be:
Cleaner profile sheets
Reduced visual clutter
Improved readability
Less clutter within the main horizontal geometry
More efficient sheet production for complex projects
Separates vertical alignment production efforts from design efforts (similar to typical plan design/production workflows)
Better management of multiple vertical features within a single corridor environment
